Commish who hails from the Bronx, NY, the birthplace of hip-hop, William Lewis A.K.A. DJ Commish, was destined to be DJ. He grew up in a city and household where music was constantly surrounding him. As the former Urban Music Director at St. Johns University and an employee at Elecktra Records, Commish transitioned his love for music out of the corporate world and onto the dance floor in 2000. Having always looked up to the music styles and spinning finesse of New York City DJs: DJ Ace, Red Alert, DJ Goldfinger, Big Kap, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Craig G, SNS and Funkmaster Flex, William Lewis was given the opportunity to DJ in 1998 while at a St. John's Back to School Party. From that moment forward, DJ Commish was born. DJ Commish earned the title of the "Commissioner" during his years at St. Johns University while working as the first Urban Music Director of WSJU, St. Johns University college radio station. While running his college radio station, working within the athletics department and maintaining a position in the television department, Commish defined his position as a leader, then on a college campus and now on New York's music scene. As an employee at Electra Records, Commish began booking popular urban artists including Lil' Mo, Kelly Price and others to sing the national anthem at Madison Square Garden. Utilizing his established industry connections, Commish was able to transition these connections into a career in NY nightlife and beyond. A lover of all music genres with an ear for music, Commish differs from most DJs. The Commish DJ style is limitless and includes incorporating a versatile music catalog during each of his sets. You can catch him playing a high-energy fusion of hip-hop, rock, reggae, soca, electro, 70s, 80s pop mixed with today's newest music, making him a favorite DJ amongst all generations.
